Climbing Course

  1. □ Distance:11.6km
  2. □ Cumulative Elevation:1,100m
  3. □ Course:Tentakemasa Route via Mt. Tenridake
  4. □ Further Information:

Approach to Starting Point

  1. □ Transportation:Car
  2. □ Time to Starting Point:21:00
  3. □ Further Information:

My Impressions

Mt.Ryogami is located in the Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It also belongs to 100 famous mountains of Japan. It's height is 1,723m. You can take several different routes to get to the summit. If you choose the popular routes it is not so difficult to climb. This time, I chose the most difficult route. I climbed the same route several years ago, but I failed to reach the summit because I lost my way. But this time I had GPS so I was much more confidant to succeed in climbing. Although I succeeded in reaching the summit, I lost my way a few times so I wasted couple of hours getting back on track. I think it is an advanced course and demands a lot of skill and preparation. First, you need to possess stamina to walk 20km(about 12.4 miles) on a mountain road in a day. Second, you have to be skillful in reading maps because in the forest GPS won't work accurately. When I climbed up, the GPS indicated 50m(about 164ft) of error. Lastly, you should be accustumed to rock climbing.
